The Moluccas Room

An evening with "the special one" is always incomplete without good food and drinks. On a normal weekday evening after work, we decided to randomly hang out at Marina Bay Sands shopping mall. After checking out several shops, our stomach called for some food and we entered The Moluccas Room (an Indonesian cuisine) for dinner and drinks.

The restaurant had a very peaceful ambiance and we settled in quickly and comfortably.
There was a very tempting promotion on Satays: 10 sticks for $25 and any beer at just $8. We ordered Chicken Satays and beer to go along with it. I must admit, the Satays were one of the finest I had eaten in Singapore. The peanut sauce and pickle as sides were delicious and the Satays were yummy!

For mains, we ordered grilled chicken and sauted Indonesian styled fish. The meat was cooked well and it was tender. Definitely the chicken is recommended for all first timers to The Moluccas.

The service provided at the restaurant was impressive and it certainly lived up to a fine dining spirit. I am eagerly waiting to make another visit to The Moluccas and have a delicious meal (and obviously, the Satays!)

Ambrosia - Lounge and Restaurant @ Baghdad Street

Dates visited:
30th Jan 2009

Occasion: Bachelorette Party

My friends had celebrated my Bachelorette Party @ Ambrosia Lounge. A party is never complete without good food, drinks, music and company.

The ambiance is very soothing. There is Arabic music at the background always. There are belly dance shows every Sat evening. We got to catch a good show and the Belly Dance was awesome. Kudos to her for making our evening.

There are a variety of sheesha flavours that you can try from. Apple, Mint and Mixed Fruits are amongst my favourites. There are the usual selection of alcoholic drinks. If you like, try the Turkish coffee or an Ayran (Sweet/Salted) drink.

The food variety is vast. You get everything from Pita bread to Hummus to Doner Kebabs and Sheesh Taouk. The Mousakaa is at its best and is definitely a recommended dish. If you are a salad's person, you can try the Fattoush.

Chilis - Resort World Sentosa

Dates visited:
7th June 2012

We went to Universal Studios and after a long tiring day out, we decided to grab some food @ RWS itself. Chilis offers a good variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food.

We tried the Vegetarian Fajita which had brocolli, mushrooms, carrots, onions and capsicums well tossed and roasted in a sizzling pan.

The salsa sauce tasted just nice.
The portions were huge (1 main course can be shared by 2 people).

Chilis also offers a good variety of drinks and there are promotions on drinks everyday.
There are 1-1 cocktail offers, 1-1 margarita offers, promotions on beers and many more.
The ambiance is energetic and the service is good.

RIverwalk Tandoor @ Clarke Quay

Dates visited:
23rd Jun 2012

Celebrations are meant to be special. Specialty lies in food for most Indians. Good food indicates good celebrations.

We were celebrating 2 of our friends' (Abhijeet and Amlan's) birthdays @ Riverwalk Tandoor. It is indeed famous for its buffet but to our disappointment, the experience was not as good as we had expected it.

In terms of service, the place is just about okay. They could do better to meet customers' expectations. Few of the friends had requested for Ala-Carte meals given their dietary restrictions. Unfortunately, they were forced to have buffet since that was the only option. It was definitely a turn off for the group.

Ambiance was just above average. It was slightly breezy but very humid at the outdoor seating. The music being played was ridiculous. This could be changed to something more suitable to provide a conducive environment for customers.

Food was just okay. If you savor authentic Indian cuisine, Riverwalk Tandoor is not the right choice for you. But if you are desperate to have Indian food, this might be a good backup option.

The variety of food in the buffet is quite limited.
The buffet served the following items:
Starters:
- Aloo Chat, Green Salad, Mushroom Soup
Main Course:
- Saffron Rice, Steamed Rice, Assorted Naans, Daal Makhni, Aloo Gobhi, Palak Paneer, Fish Curry, Mutton Masala, Butter Chicken, Tandoori Chicken
Desserts:
- Fresh Fruits, Rice Kheer, Gulab Jamun

The aloo chat had an uneven proportion of spices. The butter chicken was a little too sweet. The mutton masala was well cooked and tasted well. Aloo gobhi was prepared well. The gulab jamun was rubbery. Rest of the items were just about okay. However, the food was not even warm. Eating cold Indian food is not a good option for the price you pay.
